  • Professional Journey: I’ve worked in the energy industry for over 15 years, progressing through various roles managing large gas and power portfolios. I’ve gained experience on both the supplier and TPI side, giving me a well-rounded view of the market and what customers need.

Introduction

I’m Rhys Gardiner, TPI Account Manager at Evolve Energy. I joined in May 2023, bringing with me over a decade of energy industry experience. I’m part of the Operations and Commercial Development teams.

My role is all about managing internal and external relationships, ensuring that the needs of both the business and our customers are met – particularly through efficient energy procurement and smooth operational delivery.

A Typical Day

I kick off my day by reviewing my calendar for any scheduled meetings and checking my inbox for tender requests or urgent queries that need attention.

My day-to-day includes managing the gas and power procurement for the TPIs I support and overseeing meter upgrade projects. Where a customer has a traditional or radio teleswitch (RTS) meter, I help coordinate their upgrade to an AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) meter, making energy usage more efficient and future-ready whilst supporting the transition to Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS).

Teamwork is a major part of my role – whether it's jumping on internal Teams calls or working closely with external partners to keep projects and relationships running smoothly. I rely on our in-house platforms for tracking registrations and credit assessments, along with various industry tools to manage data and procurement activity.

Impacts & Achievements

The most rewarding part of my job is the continuous opportunity to learn – there’s always something new to explore in the evolving energy landscape.

A steep but rewarding learning curve has been adjusting to the in-house developed systems and processes here at Evolve and understanding how we tailor solutions to meet each customer's unique needs.

Successfully delivering an AMR upgrade project for a customer was a standout achievement – it’s always great to see a complex plan come together.

Looking Ahead

Professionally, I want to continue expanding my knowledge across other areas of the energy industry.

As Evolve continues to grow, I aim to help shape our commercial offering through strong, proactive account management with new and existing partners who are aligned to our vision of empowering our customers' sustainable ambitions. Personally, I’m keeping the decks spinning – DJing on the radio and in bars is something I love.

The energy industry is vast and ever-evolving, so surround yourself with knowledgeable people, ask questions, and take every opportunity to learn.

My personal motto is “never be afraid to ask – otherwise, the answer will always be no!”.
