Hometown: London born but grew up in St Annes.
Joined in 2022 as a graduate from LJMU as a Supply Point Administrator and then joined the Trading team 8 months later.
Hobbies and Interests: Pilates, running, beach trips with my dog and partner and spending time with friends.
Fun Fact: I did one full and four half marathons last year, including Paris and London.
Introduction
I’m Ellie Rainey, a Procurement Specialist at Evolve. I’ve been with the company since November 2022.
I’m part of the Trading and Procurement team, where I work closely with my colleagues to manage customer supply positions, oversee renewable generation, and handle tendering processes and pricing. I also support with trading queries and challenges, while regularly communicating with customers, TPIs, and counterparties to assess and manage their positions.
A Typical Day
My day starts with grabbing a coffee and greeting the team. I then check my calendar and discuss the meetings I have that day to make sure the trade line is covered at all times. I’m responsible for reviewing all our bespoke and consortium gas and power contracts before they’re passed over to the customer. I also create weekly and fortnightly position reports, which I share with our customers. On top of that, my role involves handling daily trades with customers and counterparties, as well as
managing ad hoc trading-related queries.
Collaboration is a key part of our day-to-day work. We’re constantly communicating within the team to stay aligned, especially since our roles can be fast-paced and time-sensitive. This teamwork extends to our clients as well, ensuring we respond to trades quickly in an ever-changing market.
For tools, we rely on in-house developed software for real-time market prices, shaping and forecasting customer volume. We also use trading software to produce reports, risk analysis, and calculations.
Impacts & Achievements
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing the real impact my work has on both the business and our customers. Knowing that my reports are trusted and widely relied upon as a valuable resource is incredibly fulfilling. I also get to work alongside an amazing team whose knowledge and support have played a huge role in my own growth and development—I feel truly grateful to be surrounded by such talented colleagues.
A moment I’m especially proud of is my career progression at Evolve. I started as an SPA with no prior industry experience, but through hard work and dedication, I transitioned into the trading team within just eight months. Taking on challenges and continuously pushing myself helped me grow, and I was welcomed into the team with open arms—a journey that has been both exciting and rewarding.
Looking Ahead
I genuinely enjoy my role at Evolve and am eager to deepen my expertise in this field. My goal is to
continue growing with the company, expanding my knowledge and skillset along the way. On a personal level, I aspire to travel more and stay consistent with my fitness journey. As Evolve expands, I see my role shifting further toward renewable energy trading and forecasting. With the industry rapidly evolving, I’m excited to be part of this transition and play a role in driving a more sustainable future.
International Womens Day 2025
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women and recognise those who
have inspired us. It’s important to me that women are seen and heard for all they contribute, as inequality still has a significant impact today. Being part of a trading team that is 75% female in a
traditionally male-dominated field is something I’m incredibly proud of. We’ve proven that gender doesn’t define success—hard work and determination do. My advice to my younger self would be to never let setbacks define your journey. Stay focused, keep pushing forward, and trust that your efforts will pay off.
